Today's meeting was started off with several members sharing and reading aloud pieces that they had been working on in response to the writing prompt from the previous meeting or other writing that they had been working on. Once some of the student writing had been discussed, the main focus of the meeting was then addressed: NaNoWriMo. NaNoWriMo is an annual creative writing event in which writers attempt to achieve a written piece of a certain number of words between November 1st-30th. Currently, it is the main focus of club members.
A collective club goal has been set to reach 320,000 words by the end of NaNoWriMo. Individual writers have set a goal of 20,000 words. As this is the first time that the Literary Journal Club is participating in this event, it was decided that an educator account would be created, so a classroom of writers could be created and student progress could be tracked.
In case you were not able to attend, please create an account and join the class ASAP. Please refer to the post, How to Join the Literary Journal Club NaNoWriMo for steps to creating an account and accessing the class code.
Finally, in order to get our creative juices flowing, members played an icebreaker which involved creating a story as a team where every member continued the story with a sentence and the next member followed the story up with the next sentence and so on. On a side note, some reoccurring themes in the stories were the PSATs, heaven, and cats.
Our next meeting is on Tuesday, November 1st from 3:40-4:30. This is also the first day of NaNoWriMo! Be prepared to start the novel writing process and toying around with our accounts!
Until then,
Baani Minhas
Literary Journal Club President
